Summer Shakespeare Camps 2007

A haven for creative, youthful artists

Our Philosophy

There is no such thing as a wrong answer and there isn’t one correct way to play a part. Our camps take each student on a personal journey through the world of Shakespeare. Their natural imaginations will be embraced and nurtured as their ability to focus and work as a team increases. Positive reinforcement is our method of instruction as our young artists explore Shakespeare’s mind-expanding concepts and beautiful world vision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who teaches the camps?

Each camp is run by two theater professionals who specialize in youth theater education. They are assisted by an apprentice and overseen by the Festival's Education staff.

Is there a performance on the final day?

Yes, all of our camps conclude with a Workshop Presentation for family and friends on the final day of camp. The Workshop Presentation for The Fantastical Players is at 7pm on Friday night. Fantastical Players Campers have a pizza dinner at the Festival at 5pm, a final run-through at 6pm and the Presentation at 7pm.

What Shakespeare play will my child be working on during her week of camp?

This typically isn’t decided until after the first day of camp. On the first day, the instructors talk to the campers about their previous experience and current interests. With over 38 Shakespeare plays to choose from, they then select the play that is most appropriate to the group while making sure it is a play that kids haven’t studied before.

Do the camps repeat or can my child attend all sessions for her grade level?

You child may attend all sessions because we do not repeat the focused plays.

What about snacks and lunch?

Food is not included in the camps. All camps have a midmorning snack break. Many parents choose to pack fruit, crackers and a juice box for this time. The Fantastical Players has designated morning and afternoon breaks where a quick, light snack can be consumed. All camps, except for Shakespeare Adventures, have a lunch period where we picnic in Loch Haven Park. Lunches can be kept cool in our refrigerator.

My child has never heard of Shakespeare, or participated in a theater program. Will he feel left out?

No, absolutely not. Our teachers are trained to give each child the personal focus and attention that they require. The theater pieces that he is given will be tailored to stretch his limits without exceeding his abilities.

My child has tons of experience on the stage, will he be bored?

It hasn’t happened yet! Our camps are fast paced, active and designed to challenge the imagination. Our own professional actors, including the ones who have spent years performing on the New York stage, still take classes to keep their skills sharp and deepen their emotional commitment to their work.

Are there extended drop off and pick up hours?

We ask that you drop off and pick up your child within 20 minutes of the start/end time of the camp. A 30-minute drop off and pick up time can be arranged free of charge if you give the Festival plenty of notice. Extended needs can be accommodated for a daily fee. Please contact the Festival to inquire.

What are your registration and refund policies?

We do not charge enrollment fees. Your child is considered enrolled when we have received complete payment for the camp. A full refund, minus a $25 registration fee, is available if you cancel more than 14 days from the start of camp. A 50% refund is available if you cancel less than 7 days from the start of camp. No refunds are available after the first day of camp. There are no exceptions.
