  • David Kelley
David Kelley, raised in the shimmering grey mists of the Pacific Northwest, is proud to be here in Orlando, helping bring Eric’s adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde to life.  Since beginning his performing career as a teen singing duets with his dad at church, and after graduating from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, David has hopscotched all over the country acting on stages from the Seattle Civic Light Opera to the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut to the West Side Theatre Off Broadway.  Some of his favorite roles include: MAME (Lillie Stoates Award for the role of Patrick), OKLAHOMA (Curly), MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS (John Truitt), A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Bob Cratchit), ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (Mortimer) and THE NAKED GUY (title role—original cast).
  • Tom Taylor
Tom acts and teaches for the Festival and runs the Internship Training Program.  He has directed LAUGHING WILD at Boston University, and in Kansas City he directed THE BALD SOPRANO for Gorilla Theatre and ANASTASIA for The Bell Road Barn Players.  At Trinity Preparatory School, Tom directed eighteen plays including THE VISIT,  GODSPELL, TWELVE ANGRY JURORS, VANITIES,  THE ZOO STORY,  YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, HARVEY, ARSENIC AND OLD LACE, ANNIE, and BABY WITH THE BATHWATER.
  • Eric Hissom
Eric is the director of PlayLab, the Festival’s new play development program.  His plays DAYBREAK and DUSK were produced at the Orlando International Fringe Festival.  His BILLIE AND FRAN was workshopped as part of PlayLab’s 1999-2000 season. His original works have also been produced at Cape May Stage and the Brooklyn Theatre Project.  Eric has been associated with the Festival for six seasons, as an actor and a director.  Currently acting in the Indoor season, he will be directing AS YOU LIKE IT for the 2001 Outdoor season.  Eric thanks Forster Harmon for his support.

 Director’s Notes

Frankenstein, Dracula, Alice ("in Wonderland");  all mythopoetic figures who share, along with Jekyll-Hyde, the fact that they live in our collective imaginations.  The character arrived in the form of a dream to Robert Louis Stevenson, his creator, who because of his Calvinist upbringing thought that Man was always suppressing his evil nature.  A Victorian moral parable which stretches from our deepest, darkest past all the way to our frenetic, fast, furious present.  Multiple personalities inhabit us all.  Addiction (alcohol, nicotine, drugs, sex, violence) goes hand in hand with denial.  "The moment I choose," Dr. Jekyll says, "I can be rid of him."
